Horsepower

Note: A higher powered compressor is often needed when not doing lymphatic pumping but more of a kneading. If the compression sleeves are using too much pressure the lymph fluid can get redirected to the extracellular space and not directed to the lymph nodes and thoracic duct that eventually brings the lymph to the liver and processed with bile from the gall bladder.

Note: Some motors create more EMF than other motors. If concerned about EMF please let me know so I can help avoid those brands with high EMF.

Beware of brands that are not clear on their power. I have seen some machines go as high as 250 mmhg which could probably make my legs turn blue but are not even half the power as a 140mmgh BOA machine. I could not figure this out and how horsepower of the motor could be twice as much and deliver less than half the operating pressure when I actually put on both leg boots on at the same time from those 2 manufacturers.

PHP - Peak horsepower (the highest operating pressure without any resistance and depends on how many liters of air is in the sleeve. Those with bigger vs smaller legs will make this difference.

CHP - Constant Horsepower: This is when the machine is working and actual delivered, constant output compression strength.

Note: A machine can have an input of 250 mmhg for example but once it meets resistance it can be much lower, usually less than half of the input. Output compression is not the same as input compression. This is why when I saw some machines go up to really high number mmhg levels I firt though they were more power. BAO is the most powerful and that runs at 140mmhg so I know something was fishy when I saw another one that was at 250 mmhg and it felt way less than this one. I had to put Recovery Pump and Normatec and then I bought all the other brands I could find that sold for 300 to 500 and needed to see if they were just as powerful as they claimed when I called them. Everyone on my calls first thing did their phone comparison to Normatec.  Usually within 60 seconds when they start to give their pitch the Normatec name is always there. It's like a buzz word right now. So, I know which ones are more powerful and which ones are worth paying extra for but for most people, they don't know since not many people really care to review each brand like I did.

Note: the best way to tell if the compression machine is really powerful and which one is really delivering a high output pressure is knowing the amperage of the machine and voltage. Also if the compression sleeves are built cheap and can't handle the output pressure this can also be bad.

Each machine which is not on the specs should have a continuous duty rating. Some are commercially built and mean to run all day while others get hot (I do laser thermometer tests on almost everything I review to test this). On blogs I read how people are buying these machines and they burn out in a year. It is easy to see which ones will and won't when you know how to read the specs or ask for them.  If you take them apart like I did it's easy to see which ones are more continuous duty and which are strictly residential meant for 1 use and then let it cool down until the next session.

Note: Horsepower is Meaningless if I don't know the wattage and amperage. This is how they got me. Startup high number mmhg was not the same as the running compression strength. I am so glad I did this review so other's don't have to go through what I went through. The problem is that even the importers and owners of some of these companies didn't even know this stuff. They had no idea how to answer most of my questions. They don't even know what infusing their compression machine means and thought it was some type of prank call when I started talking about how I infuse them.

Also, poorly designed machines will give off more heat. This is another sign that the compression machine is creating too much friction and once someone's legs are actually in the machine the compression power significantly goes down.

Take my compression quiz. I will recommend a brand based on your answers.
